Grandpa’s Old House, watercolour
This seemingly ordinary bungalow in the country was much loved by a man who, as a young boy, had spent many happy summers there with his grandparents. When he moved into a condo, his family wanted to give him a gift that would remind him of the years he had spent living in the country. The current owners of the house, however, were a young family, and the front yard was covered with child’s toys; there was a boat and a trailer in the driveway, and a huge pile of firewood obscured the garden house, where the boy had played. Also, dairy cattle no longer grazed the field on the north side. So I painted it as it used to look.
